WELCOME TO MY WEB
Hi, my name is Bob Sheets, and I am the sole producer of the artistic and functional pieces displayed for you in the photos link. I thought some of you may like to know a little about the artist, so here is a brief biography.
I was born in a 1 room log cabin no no no just kidding.
I am 60 years old. Married 35 years and we have 2 children, Jessica 30, and Ben 28. Diane and I live in Pittsburgh,Pa near the Highland Park Zoo.
I am retired from 30 years in maintenance with the commonwealth of Pennsylvania. Graduated from the University of Pittsburgh with a BS in psych, and spent a couple of years in Viet Nam. I became involved with pottery quite by accident. 2 kilns and a wheel were given to me by a friend. At that time I was quite happy to do very little, slowly, however upon researching the net and finding out how valuable these items were I decided to try my hand.
I went to the bookstore and bought a couple of books on pottery. One on how to throw, and one more general, firing temperatures, types of clay and so forth. I soon discovered the ability to throw on the wheel was not going to be mine any time soon, so I looked around for another way to create useful and beautiful pieces from the 200 pounds of clay in my studio (basement).
Some of my ideas were less than successful, others were not, and soon I began to produce some very nice pieces. Almost everyone who saw my work found something they liked and wanted to have. Of course in those days I had not considered selling my work, and I gave many things away. My wife (who is still working) indicated most strongly that I should find an outlet and try to market my pieces. (being on a fixed income as she likes to remind me) This sentiment was reinforced by friends and family, as well as 2 very experienced potters from a nearby shop, the Glazing Pot. So with all this encouragement I decided to develop a web site and show my wares.
I am still experimenting with different styles and techniques and expect my line of ceramic wares to expand and continue to grow.
